1) Take Your Time - It’s not a Race!

One of the real benefits of learning online is that you can take your time.  You might want to become an ITIL Expert as soon as possible, but the best way to do this is to make sure you are fully prepared for each exam.
Rushing through the course material will not prepare you fully.
For each course you study online, please check the syllabus that’s included within your document download area. The syllabus is your key to understanding what’s required from you. It will help you to plan your study time and avoid rushing or cramming your learning into too little time.
Take regular breaks during the video Lessons, and watch them again to really reinforce the key learning points.
  • 2) Use All the Material Provided

For most courses - your are provided with a wealth of learning materials – video tutorials, downloadable study guides, supporting documents, exercises, quizzes and practice exam papers (with answers)
  • Make sure you use it all – to prepare yourself as well as possible for the exam.  Plan your study time so that you are switching between the material – spend some time watching a video Lesson, then spend some quality time with the Study Guide to reinforce the key learning points.

    3) Make Your Own Study Notes

We’ve given you lots of quality, accredited course material.  However, studies have shown that just looking at material won’t always guarantee retention of key facts.

As you move through the course, you need to develop your own study notes as well – writing down the information in your own words will help to embed the facts in your long term memory.

    4) You’re Not Alone!

Online learning should never be a lonely experience – don’t forget you’ve got access via email to a fully qualified ITIL V3 Expert Tutor. This person is fully qualified in ITIL V3 and is there to assist you with any questions or clarification points that you may have.

If you’ve got a question – ask it.  We’re here to help!

    5) Condense the Material

There is often a lot of new material to learn with ITIL. All of the key terms, definitions and new concepts can sometimes feel a little daunting!

Stat to condense all of your materials down into the key facts – making your owns notes a you progress. Think about creating your own set of study notes and revision aides as you progress. The most successful candidates are always the ones who spend a lot of time making their own notes and using these proactively.

A condensed set of information is a fantastic last minute study aid before you go into the exam.

    6) Get Comfortable with the Syllabus

As each course is released, we’ll add the relevant Syllabus to your Document Download area.  Find the syllabus, download and print it.

The syllabus tells you exactly what you need to know, so you can really focus your revision and your self study and personal reading.

    7) Apply ITIL!

Another one of the benefits of online learning is that you can apply what you learn, as you learn.  Take new ideas back to work, discuss them with your colleagues, and initiate improvements.

Contextualising the information you’re studying as you progress through the course will again help you to retain key points.

    8) Find Your Learning Style

There are 3 main Learning Styles.  Auditory Learners learn through ‘hearing’, Visual Learners learn by ‘seeing’, and Kinaesthetic Learners learn by ‘doing’.

Think about how you learn, and then use that in your revision.

    9) Get Everyone Involved

It’s hard on families and colleagues when you’re locked away, studying hard for your exam.  Get people involved!   Prepare presentations for your colleagues, get your family to quiz you and help you to study.

The more you talk the ITIL talk with those around you, the more information is moving to your long term memory.

    10) Remember Why You’re Here

The last, and perhaps most important point is – remember why you are here!

Are you studying to improve your core processes at work, to help drive continual improvement, or to reduce costs for your organisation? Maybe it’s all three!

Keep in mind, as you study, exactly what your core goal is and why you are taking this training course.

Remembering your goal will help when you have a tough day.
