ITIL Master Badge (Purple, with the letter M in the middle). Currently in pilot phase this qualification has no training course or exam associated with it. To gain qualification as an ITIL Master, candidates have to have his/her work peer-reviewed by a panel of experts. Once an ITIL Expert has achieved this status, the ITIL Master can wear a lapel pin based on the colour of the ITIL Service Design book, which also has a Gold M in the centre.

The ‘Information Technology Infrastructure Library (ITIL)’ is a set of ITSM practices utilized by some of the most high-profile organizations in the world, including HSBC, IBM and even NASA. Originally released as a series of books, ITIL was designed to standardize the procedures for good IT management, helping businesses to avoid the most common pitfalls in order to deliver the best quality services possible.

As IT becomes more important, SMBs are realizing the biggest benefits of maintaining ITIL-trained personnel on staff. Though no company wants to see IT projects fail, larger companies can usually absorb the loss of productivity, time and money that accompanies a failed IT service project. SMBs may not have the financial luxury of allowing an important IT project to fail owing to poor management and lack of processes. Thus, the value of an ITIL certification may be greater for enlightened companies that cannot afford IT project failures.
The good news about ITIL certification is that it is a valuable skill for almost any IT professional, from system administrators to chief information officers (CIOs). Many large companies have dedicated ITIL coaches or mentors who help shepherd projects through the various steps of the ITIL framework. These ITIL gurus have a wide understanding of the IT landscape and can usually spot trouble with a service design document or implementation plan in a matter of minutes.
ITIL Intermediate (Capabilities Stream): Prescriptive modules with detailed views of the inputs, activities, concepts, metrics and outputs of each process, which develops capabilities for best practices of IT processes, rather than just management of them. They are most useful to those who will be taking part in the day-to-day practical activities described within each of the processes.
The centre and origin point of the ITIL Service Lifecycle, the ITIL Service Strategy (SS) volume,[22] provides guidance on clarification and prioritization of service-provider investments in services. More generally, Service Strategy focuses on helping IT organizations improve and develop over the long term. In both cases, Service Strategy relies largely upon a market-driven approach. The Service Strategy lifecycle stage is often considered as the core of the service lifecycle. In Service Strategy stage, the strategic approach for the whole lifecycle is identified to provide values to the customers through IT service management. Key topics covered include service value definition, business-case development, service assets, market analysis, and service provider types. List of covered processes:
Just like achieving an ITIL certification provides higher paying job opportunities and bolsters a resume, the expertise gained will also often give you more options in terms of job roles within the organization. Candidates with proficiencies in any of the upper-level ITIL courses will have their pick of the litter right away when it comes to where they want to go and what they want to do. So often in IT, employees must “pay their dues” so to speak, and settle on low-level roles or contractor positions until they prove themselves and showcase the knowledge and skillset required for more lucrative opportunities. With an ITIL certification, employees can often skip this process, and recruiters may decide to take input from the certified professional on where he or she wants to go right away at a competitive starting salary.

ITIL isn’t going anywhere and there are many advantages to completing your certification in any of ITIL’s five mastery courses. Let’s get this straight – getting a certification is not rocket science in today’s day and age. A certification merely demonstrates that you’ve studied and cleared an examination. It doesn’t give you wings and doesn’t solve all the world’s problems. One of the primary reasons why certifications and other training programs are losing their relevance is that it’s possible to pass the certification and still not learn ANYTHING practical about the subject.

ITIL refers to a detailed set of practices for managing IT service management, commonly known as ITSM. These practices apply to any type or size of organization that wants to align IT with severally business strategy, while delivering value and maintaining a minimum competency level. ITIL practices include a range of processes and procedures, tasks, and checklists that aid in demonstrating compliance, measuring improvement, and avoiding common pitfalls – all to deliver the best quality services to the end user.
The Service Design (SD) volume[23] provides good-practice guidance on the design of IT services, processes, and other aspects of the service management effort. Significantly, design within ITIL is understood to encompass all elements relevant to technology service delivery, rather than focusing solely on design of the technology itself. As such, service design addresses how a planned service solution interacts with the larger business and technical environments, service management systems required to support the service, processes which interact with the service, technology, and architecture required to support the service, and the supply chain required to support the planned service. Within ITIL, design work for an IT service is aggregated into a single Service Design Package (SDP). Service design packages, along with other information about services, are managed within the service catalogues.
People learn differently, so we use a variety of methods to teach concepts throughout the course. In addition to exam preparation and practice quizzes, you'll engage in round-table discussions, group exercises, and games designed to give practical context to the concepts. We take this approach not only because it's more interesting and fun than simply memorizing vocabulary, but because it works.

A summary of changes has been published by the UK Government. In line with the 2007 edition, the 2011 edition consists of five core publications – Service Strategy, Service Design, Service Transition, Service Operation, and Continual Service Improvement. ITIL 2011 is an update to the ITIL framework that addresses significant additional guidance with the definition of formal processes which were previously implied but not identified, as well as correction of errors and inconsistencies.

“A good start is to do some Google detective work to find high-level examples of how the framework is applied to processes. Once you do that, think about the 'things' offered to you at work and how you need them to get your job done. All of that is ITIL in play and if you understand this and focus on examples then learning the framework will be a breeze,” says Cox.

The ITIL Practitioner certification is the newest entry to the ITIL certification scheme. This exam was offered for the first time in February 2016. As the name implies, the ITIL Practitioner certification is based on practical knowledge of ITIL processes and how those principles are implemented in the real world. An ITIL Practitioner can explain how to use the ITIL framework to support business objectives and focuses on organizational change management, communications, and measurement and metrics.
All of our courseware is reviewed multiple times a year to ensure it's up to date, in line with best practice standards, and effective! We incorporate feedback from students to constantly improve our course books, in-class activities, and (sorry) homework. The goal is to provide you with the tools to not only get you through class and pass the exam, but also to have a reliable reference when you get back to the office.
In addition to providing business-to-business training, our courses are also taken by individuals with government training funds. On a state-by-state basis, we are able to work with programs such as Workforce Development (DWD), Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) Workforce Investment Act (WIA), and Trade Adjustment Assistance (TAA). Contact your local Workforce or TAA office to determine if you are eligible and they will reach out to us to schedule training. Note: We cannot work directly with training candidates. All training must be coordinated through your local agency.
