ITIL 4 Foundation is an evolution of, not a replacement for, the ITIL 2011 framework. Take a break from the day-to-day grind and learn what ITIL 4 could mean for your organization. Content and topics covered reflect the modern ITSM landscape and provides a basis for a holistic view of service management. Understand the end-to-end operating model, and how Agile/DevOps are central interfaces in ITIL guiding principles and continual improvement practices. In this class, you’ll learn about key ITIL structures, processes, and terminology, while discussing the practical implications of Service Management concepts. The course lays the groundwork upon which all further knowledge in specific areas of ITIL will be built.

If you work in IT, you’ve likely heard of or worked with ITIL. Perhaps you’ve even considered pursuing ITIL certifications. But is the investment worth the return? We’re taking a look at the cost of ITIL certifications at various levels and the benefits you can expect, so you can decide whether it’s an appropriate investment for you and your business.

At first glance, software development, or to be more precise, the management of the SDLC (software development lifecycle), may not seem related to ITIL (information technology infrastructure library, or why you need ITIL certification to further a career path that involves software development. However, there are ways that the two approaches are not only compatible but can even be considered two sides of the same coin. The SDLC side is a lifecycle approach to create the product – software. The ITIL side is a lifecycle approach that concentrates on the service. To understand how these two lifecycle approaches integrate, you first have to understand what they each entail.

Continuous Service Improvement: This phase defines new requirements for the preceding phases of ITIL based on operational feedback and service levels. It helps to ensure that policies and procedures are followed, that service level agreements are met and that operational lessons learned are incorporated into existing and future service refinements.
However, ITIL certification is different. Having an ITIL certification doesn’t make us an ‘expert’ for any specific skill set. As you might already be aware, ITIL is a set of best practices and is descriptive in nature. Hence an ITIL certification isn’t about doing your job, but merely about knowing the ITIL principles. In fact, that’s precisely the reason why AXELOS have now added the ITIL Practitioner level which makes it mandatory for IT folks to apply their theoretical knowledge in practice.
One of the best things about taking advantage of the ITIL training offered by Cybrary is that you have the ability to complete all of the training lessons online. So long are the days of having to search for classes near your home. You no longer have to spend your evenings or weekends sitting in a classroom, losing precious time that could be spent with your family and friends. Cybrary gives you the freedom to complete the lessons whenever and wherever is most convenient for you.
Axelos and the ITIL Development Group, made up of more than 2,000 ITIL stakeholders worldwide, began working on an update to ITIL V3 in late 2017. That work continued throughout 2018, and Axelos has announced upcoming changes to the ITIL certifications known as ITIL 4. ITIL 4 will provide sweeping changes to the ITIL certification program to better align with the growing complexity of modern IT. ITIL 4 also changes some of the certification program terms and titles to align with the new ITIL 4 program structure. Here is a look at the new ITIL 4 program overview:
A candidate for ITIL certification may choose from certification providers who are accredited by AXELOS for providing the training and examinations. Non-accredited providers may cost less, but their content and results may not be as reliable or vouched for. Pricing varies depending on country you reside and whether you’re taking an in-person course, online option, or an in-house training within your company. Candidacy for the Master-level certification alone is $4,000.
Closely related to the architectural criticism, ITIL does not directly address the business applications which run on the IT infrastructure; nor does it facilitate a more collaborative working relationship between development and operations teams. The trend toward a closer working relationship between development and operations is termed: DevOps. This trend is related to increased application release rates and the adoption of agile software development methodologies. Traditional service management processes have struggled to support increased application release rates – due to lack of automation – and/or highly complex enterprise architecture.

You have to submit your application to become a Master, and if your application is accepted, you will be required to submit a proposal. If this is successful, you will be required to submit a work package. The final stage of the Master scheme consists of an interview with a panel of assessors and, if successful, you will be granted ITIL Master certification.
