DevOps, an emerging framework which focus on continuous integration and delivery of software. It recognizes that the relationship between developer team and operations team is broken and fills in the gap to promote trust between two teams.[44] This solves the gap that ITIL framework creates—teams working in silo where they possess a "not my issues" attitude.[45]

Information Technology Infrastructure Library (ITIL) is near the top of almost every list of must-have IT certifications, and for good reason. ITIL practices are designed to help companies identify areas where they need improvement, providing vendor-neutral guidelines on where to make specific changes to reduce costs and increase productivity. Keep in mind: ITIL is not a tool but rather a set of best practices pertaining to IT service and lifecycle management.

Bottom-line is everything right? If on-site sponsorship opportunities aren’t available to you, it’s still well worth the investment to pursue an ITIL v3 certification on your own time. Not only will you be boosting your resume and providing more value to the business, but you’ll potentially receive more lucrative job opportunities as well. ITIL is listed as one of Techopedia’s highest paying IT certifications, and it’s not uncommon for certified ITIL program managers and IT architects to make well over six figures in their respective salaries. Now that’s a lot of moolah!

Organizations and management systems cannot claim certification as "ITIL-compliant". An organization that has implemented ITIL guidance in IT Service Management (ITSM), may be able to achieve compliance with and seek certification under ISO/IEC 20000. However, while relatively closely aligned, ISO/IEC 20000 and ITIL Version 2 do not define identical processes.[59] This gap has become much wider with ITIL versions 2007 and 2011. ITIL now defines twice as many ITSM processes as ISO/IEC 20000 (26 compared to 13),[60] but there are also more subtle differences, for example:[61]
Do you have a computer with webcam and internet access? Then, you are almost there. You can sign up for an online exam from the convenience of your home/laptop anytime. Most providers offer this option where you will be proctored when you are taking the exam. Especially when you are on a service desk or shift rotation job, this would be a handy option!
The Service Design (SD) volume[23] provides good-practice guidance on the design of IT services, processes, and other aspects of the service management effort. Significantly, design within ITIL is understood to encompass all elements relevant to technology service delivery, rather than focusing solely on design of the technology itself. As such, service design addresses how a planned service solution interacts with the larger business and technical environments, service management systems required to support the service, processes which interact with the service, technology, and architecture required to support the service, and the supply chain required to support the planned service. Within ITIL, design work for an IT service is aggregated into a single Service Design Package (SDP). Service design packages, along with other information about services, are managed within the service catalogues.

Following the passing an APMG/EXIN exam in IT service management (based on ITIL), some people will wear a metal pin on their shirt or jacket. This badge, provided by the ITSMF with basic gold colour is set in the form of the ITIL-logo. The ITIL pins consist of a small, diamond-like structure. The meaning and the shape of the diamond is meant to depict coherence in the IT industry (infrastructure as well). The four corners of the pin symbolise service support, service delivery, infrastructure management and IT management.
As ITIL 4 incorporates much of the content from ITIL V3, any existing investments in ITIL are protected. However, ITIL 4 builds on the current content and highlights the importance of working holistically and collaboratively to successfully deliver products and services. It provides an invaluable digital operating model that offers practical support for emerging technologies, such as AI and robotics.
It may never be a complete guarantee that an ITIL certification is worth the investment, both for you and your company. With anything, you’ll often get out of the process exactly what you put into it. But, because ITIL builds on previous experience, you can try it out with entry-level certifications before fully committing to the long-term promise of ITIL Mastery.

IT Infrastructure Library (ITIL) is an IT service management framework that helps businesses improve service processes — and it’s a valuable skill for your resume. The average salary for an IT director with ITIL skills is $126,000 per year, according to data from PayScale. ITIL skills are associated with a 19 percent higher income for IT directors — the second highest paying skill after team leadership, which is associated with a 21 percent boost in salary.
ITIL was first developed by the U.K. Government's Central Computer and Telecommunications Agency (CCTA) in the 1980s as a set of standardized best practices for IT services used in government agencies. From that narrowly focused start, ITIL has been adopted, revised and expanded into a comprehensive framework for managing IT service delivery in companies and organizations of all sizes, across all industries and market sectors.

Don't let the scope of ITIL scare you away from the overall value afforded by this comprehensive lifecycle for IT services. The ITIL framework gives companies the structure and discipline required to design, develop, deliver and manage new or improved services in a timely manner and, most importantly, on a budget. Before ITIL, a lack of service management discipline and expertise led many IT projects to suffer budget overruns, veer off course or fail outright due to scope-creep, mismanagement and a lack of repeatable results. ITIL solves these problems quite nicely. In fact, ITIL is widely regarded as the pre-eminent standard for IT service management frameworks.
ITIL Master Badge (Purple, with the letter M in the middle). Currently in pilot phase this qualification has no training course or exam associated with it. To gain qualification as an ITIL Master, candidates have to have his/her work peer-reviewed by a panel of experts. Once an ITIL Expert has achieved this status, the ITIL Master can wear a lapel pin based on the colour of the ITIL Service Design book, which also has a Gold M in the centre.
As Paul Wilkinson points out here, nearly 85% of folks he meets have undergone ITIL training (out of 15,000 people).  Only 2% of these folks measure the impact in terms of cost, value, risks and other outcomes of their IT initiatives. This is one of the primary reasons why ITIL certified companies don’t get the desired results or an ROI for the cost spent on getting their folks ITIL certified.
However, ITIL certification is different. Having an ITIL certification doesn’t make us an ‘expert’ for any specific skill set. As you might already be aware, ITIL is a set of best practices and is descriptive in nature. Hence an ITIL certification isn’t about doing your job, but merely about knowing the ITIL principles. In fact, that’s precisely the reason why AXELOS have now added the ITIL Practitioner level which makes it mandatory for IT folks to apply their theoretical knowledge in practice.
